Itineraries
A stay in Langa and Roero, does not only mean great wines, truffles and unique cuisine with the unforgettable flavors , but also landscapes that enchant and amaze. The silent lines of hills in the autumn fading into the mist, the vineyards in the colors of green, gold, red, the hazelnut groves, the rocks of tufo and clay. The small streets going up and down the hills of the great precious wine cru, the Alps mountains in the background.
The charm of this land is also the possibility to admire it from a “bric” (small hill), in a deep silence now forgotten in the cities. We can suggest to you route, as a starting point and then … let you wander through them without haste, by car or bicycle, or motorcycle or by foot!
The romantic road of Langhe and Roero: eleven stages, and endless detours, for 100 km of roads and trails, to discover the spirit of this land. Landscapes and places that change every season, with a charm always different, but always speaking of a land shaped by the love and man’s work. The vineyards, farm houses, castles, taverns, ancient towers and woods… The route runs from Vezza d’Alba, through Roero up to Magliano Alfieri, then crosses the Tanaro to enter into the Langhe hills of Alba, Treiso Trezzo Tinella Benevello Sinio and then up to the high Langa in Cissone, Murazzano Mombarcaro and Camerana.
Among the Roero hills: from Govone, amidst the vineyards of Barbera and Nebbiolo, straddling the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, towards Priocca, Castellinaldo Castagnito Guarene and its castle, Piobesi, Perno, Monteu, Vezza
A tour in the Langa vineyards: from Alba towards the hills of the great wines, in the vineyards of Neive, Tre Stelle, Barbaresco, Benevello, Barolo, La Morra, Diano, Grinzane, taverns and wine cellars. The most traditional eno-gastronomic journey. By car or motorbike.
By bike around Roero “rocche”: up and down Roero hills, biking trhough the left bank of the Tanaro, leaving and returning to Canale, home of Regional “Enoteca del Roero” (Regional wine promotion board for Roero). Not only vineyards, but also woodland and orchards.
Barbaresco trekking: From Alba, along Tanaro river, toward Barbaresco hills and the vineyards of great “crus” Asili, Rabjà, Faset…
Barolo Trekking: from Monforte, in the vineyards and hazelnut groves, towards the region of great “crus” of Serralunga, Ginestra, Villero, Castiglione Falletto, Bussia, and the small Romanesque church of Santo Stefano
By bike in the hills of Count of Cavour: from Grinzane Cavour, seat of regional “Enoteca” in the beautiful castle of Count Cavour family, towards Monforte, Bossolasco and then Roddino, Sinio, Diano to come back to Grinzane.
Trekking in the hills Alfieri: from Asti to Cisterna, passing through San Martino, Govone, San Damiano, along the Tanaro and the “rocche”, farms, baroque palaces and orchards.
Castles: Roero is a land of castles. About twenty castles and towers are still here to testify the feudal past of Roero. Medieval castles and strongholds, such as the fortified castle of Monticello owned by the same family – Roero Monticelli – since 1372, with three beautiful red-brick towers, one square, one round and one octagonal and the courtyard that still retains the original structure of the fourteenth century. The strongholds in Cisterna d’Asti, Baldissero, Castellinaldo. The castle of Monteu Roero, atop a steep hill, where it seems to have spent a distant medieval winter, the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, the towers of Montaldo Roero, Santo Stefano Roero and Corneliano. And finally, the beautiful baroque residences such as the castles of Guarene, Magliano Alfieri and Govone!
